Hume lays out his stance, Patto’s contract and Jobe has a choice to make

Patterson is rumoured to have suitors from other Premier League clubs so the improved contract may just keep them at bay. Trai Hume has insisited he loves playing for Sunderland and that if any transfer activity regardign him is very much in the clubs hands. It has been reported that Sunderland plan to hold contract talks with a number of players over the Summer. Hume is likely to be one of those players.
Some reports, pinch of salt, are reporting that Dortmund Manager Niko Kovac has his eyes drawn else where for transfer targets other than Jobe but I don’t see this causing any problems. Unless the German club feel they can get a better player cheaper elsewhere.

Jobe seemingly at exit door, Doyle a target for Black Cats, Retained list confirmed
The benefits of being a Premier League club in a transfer window
1- You get to spend more money
2- It’s easier to attract top talent
The Cons of being a Premier League Club
1- Everyone and their mothers wants your players
2- You and your mothers wants everyone elses players
the Transfer is seemingly springing to life in this extremely short window before it shuts again for the Club World Cup only to open again afterwards…FIFA really know how to make things simple don’t they?
It seems Jobe Bellingham’s move to Borussia Dortmund is entering it’s final stages and he will exit Sunderland with the best wishes of everyone at the club. The man who spoiled the fun of the transfer window, Fabrizio Romano, posted an update saying Jobe had agreed a 5 year contract with the German club but transfer deal is still to be agreed between the 2 clubs.
Sunderland have been linked with Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle after reports across the media that he is available for £3 million. The 23 year old Central Midfielders has some Top Flight experience and came through the ranks of Manchester City. Doyle only joined Wolves permenantly last year after a loan spell. It’s an interesting link but comes with little risk if he is available or a low cost.
Trai Hume has been linked with half of the bottom half of the Premier League and also introducing Yamina Lamal to some Northern Irish defending after clubs in La Liga are also reportedly interested however, it’s believed that Sunderland want to offer Hume and a number of first team players new contracts following promotion. So prepare for a lot of noise around players like Hume over the Summer.
Today the Black Cats confirmed their retained list. released later than usual due to Sunderlands involvement in the play off final (which they won by the way). There’s no huge surprises as Salis Abdul Samed and Chris Mephem returned to their parent clubs and Enzo Le Fee signed on a permenant deal. Mephem and Samed appeared to be here on Straight loans but that doesn’t rule either of them signing permenantly later in the window. Samed proved a crucial figure in the dressing room and Mephem at times showed his top flight quality. Ones to watch. See the full statement from the club here
French club Lyon were heavily sanctioned and provisionally relegated to Ligue 2 in November 2024, this may be one to watch as Lyon have to the club back on sound financial footing to avoid relegation and while their is currently talm of ownership change, it may be a good oppoertunity for clubs like Sunderland to get some decent talent at a reasonable price.
Kristjaan Speakman has been speaking with media outlets today and has very much given politicans answers to most questions. I’m sure more will come out in the coming days however he remained tight lipped about everything, including who he would like to face on the opening day of the season.
The Summer transfer window is open until 10th June 2025 and reopens on the 16th June 2025 until 1st September 2025. There is a 100 things wrong with this transfer window. The effort FIFA has gone to in order try and get Messi and Ronaldo playing in the same competition is nothing short of startling but hey as long as Messi, Ronaldo and Real Madrid are happy…Any way while this won’t have a massive impact on Sunderland’s window, it may cause a few problems if some players get injured taking part in the Club World Cup.
Sky Sports Keith Downie posted earlier today that Sunderland are planning to sign 4 ot 5 players over the summer with the focus on strengthening the spine of the team. Their is still a hope Jobe stays at Sunderland but Former Liverpool captain and Farringdon School attendee Jordan Henderson isn’t currently on their radar. Of course there’s a lot of time between now and then so I imagine it’s confirmed what we all kind of anticipated.
Come back for more tomorrow…
