My EPL predictions
My prediction of the table below isn’t based on any statistical analysis or hyper complex super computer theory but just gut instinct and my interpretation of the transfer window so far. Of course with 2 weeks or so left of the window and the dreaded January window anything can and will happen. So who knows, I’m just adding my 2p to the slot machine of 2ps that is the Premier League predictions pool.
Title winners: Liverpool
I was going to put Arsenal as title winners a few days ago as I think they’ve made some very good signings and now they finally have a recognised striker they could be very dangerous. However, Liverpool have made moves to sign some centre backs which I think will have been their weakest area. If they get some defensive recruits in, they are the team to beat. Upfront they just have too much firepower, they will outscore everyone and if they get Isak, it’s game over. Man City seem like they can’t decide how long this squad rebuild with last because they keep moving players on without bringing much in. Rodri is injured again and Man City always seem to take a few weeks to get going. I think this Could be a disappointing season for Pep.
Relegated: Burnley, West Ham, Leeds
Burnley
Their recruitment has been okay but under Scott Parker and seeing their frailties last season, they are going to struggle. Turf Moor will need to be a fortress but I just don’t see it working. I think they will flatter to deceive, they will look good on the ball but get nowhere with it.
West Ham
West Ham are on their last legs and this window has been uninspiring. They are a Jarred Bowen injury away from a disaster. Graham Potter faces an uphill battle to just keep the fans onside. I think they’ve been a bit like Sunderland and just on a downward trajectory which can’t be helped. They have good players but a bad start will be hard to recover from for them.
Leeds
This was a toss up between Brentford and Leeds in all honesty. Brentford has Premier League experience and good infrastructure to adapt. Leeds has Daniel Farke who just doesn’t inspire confidence for me. They’ve bought in big players and look like they are going to just be hard to beat but that just isn’t enough. They have no strikers either and need to get moving on that one quickly otherwise Farke might be apologising to Bamford.
Sunderland 16th
This season is going to be a long hard slog but the talent and ability we have I think is more than enough to upset a few apple carts. I also think some of the players from last season have the ability to grow and adapt to the premier league. There will be bad days but I think if we can make the stadium of Light Fortress which we did for a lot of last season we will be fine. I think the way we play suits the Premier League and RLB has shown that he can adapt his tactics to meet the demands of a game. Plus we’ve got Granit Xhaka.
