Should I stay or should I go?
Reviewing each first team player safc loaned or on the fringe on what their chances are of staying or going next season.
Abdullah Ba
2 words come to mind when I think back of Abdullah Ba, inconsistent chaos, the wingers performances were always so erratic that you never knew what you were going to get but he never necessarily stood out from the crowd with his ability.
Verdict: Leave
Luis Hemir
Promised so much during his first preseason delivered nothing after. Long time admirers Juventus got him, sent him to their reserves and again, he seemed to struggle. He has the build and attributes to do well, but seems to be lacking any substantial ability. Who knows, Mayenda was written off but I don’t see a return to the first team.
Verdict: leave
Timothy Pembélé
Aye tra pal
Verdict: Leave
Nectar Triantis
2 successful loans spells and a change of position later, Nectar has a case to prove. Personally I’m happy to have a look at him, could be a useful asset. He’s not going to start but his height and physicality could be a bonus in the dying embers of a game.
Verdict: Stay
Nazariy Rusyn
Has the heart of a lion and works his backside off but just doesn’t have the ability to match. He’s never got a fair run in the side but always looked just okay, in all honesty. He will be remembered for his goal against Boro but I think his time here is over.
Verdict: Leave
Jay Matete
He was seen as an ambitious signing in League 1 and never really got going, injuries meant he never got much of a chance to shine and loan spells seemed more to get him playing again rather than development. I think he derserves a chance to prove himself at championship level so hopefully a good move manifests for him.
Verdict: Leave
Pierre Ekwah
Another enigma of a midfielder to deal with. Sunderland have had a few over the years. Cabral and N’Dong to name a couple. It’s hard because he showed a lot of promise and ability but seemed to lack something and players like that often get found wanting in the Premier League. Like Nectar, may be a good body to have around but I think his time with the club is done.
Verdict: Leave
Nathan Bishop
I mean a move away makes sense for the lad, he struggled to hold down a place at Cambridge but think there was a lot of hype when he moved here. Happy to let him go as I don’t think he will be in the first team frame.
Verdict Leave
Adil Aouchiche
Another signing that turned a few heads when he signed with us, heads which quickly turned back. He definitely has a little spark but is no where near Premer League quality and 1 goal and 1 assist at Pompey backs that up. Still only 22 years old though so a lot of time to develop.
Verdict: Leave
Niall Huggins
If there is ever a more unlucky lad as Niall Huggins, poor lad just hasn’t had a bit of luck the last few years and I feel terribly for him. When he has played, he’s looked pretty competent. I think if he can get fit and stay fit loan him out for the first half of the season, see how he goes. Lads got talent just have to see if the injuries have hampered his development.
Verdict: stay
Jason Seelt
Again, injuries have taken their toll but a lad with a lot of promise, I think a loan will be best but would love to see how he grows. Just think his game time will be hampered in the PL and given that he’s hardly played the last 2 years, he needs game time. Lot of potential there though.
Verdict: stay
Leo Heldje
I think RLB really likes Leo and it will be interesting to what role he plays next season. I think we have seen flashes of good and bad from him. However he seems to be a very important dressing room figure. For me it’s a hard one but worth keeping around
Verdict Stay
